Arena Idé joins the European Macro Policy Network

Arena Idé, a progressive, non-partisan think tank based in Stockholm, Sweden has joined the European Macro Policy Network (EMPN) which is run by Dezernat Zukunft, a macrofinance institute in Berlin.

Dezernat Zukunft is a non-partisan institute that aims to explain and re-think monetary, financial, fiscal, and economic policy in an accessible, coherent and relevant manner. The EMPN was founded in 2021 to bring together its partners from across Europe and start developing a common vision for a new European macropolicy framework.

– We have set up Dezernat Zukunft to create a space for great people to pursue, sharpen and spread their economic policy ideas. I am delighted that Elinor Odeberg and Arena Idé have now joined our growing network, says Philippa Sigl-Glöckner, Director.

As a part of the partnership, Arena Idé will grow its team with one more economist, and together with Dezernat Zukunft, Arena Idé’s chief economist Elinor Odeberg will host a high level international conference in Stockholm on 21 September. Register here to receive updates about the conference. 

– Fiscal policy has been in the back seat of monetary policy for too long, says Elinor Odeberg. Thanks to our partnership with Dezernat Zukunft, we will be able to gather some of the world’s leading intellectuals and academics in progressive economics. The conference will focus on the potential new chapter emerging from the current economic crisis, where prosperity and inclusive growth are at the forefront of politics.

Arena Idé focuses on issues related to the labour market and education, economic policy, welfare and democracy. Arena Idé is funded by Swedish trade unions, mainly by the blue-collar Swedish Trade Union Confederation LO and its three largest members Kommunal, IF Metall and Handels, but also by unions within the white-collar confederations TCO and Saco.

The aim of Dezernat Zukunft is to help shape an economic system guided by the values of dignity, prosperity, and democracy. Main focus areas are fiscal and monetary policy, labour market and climate/energy.
