Webinar with Professor Partha Dasgupta.
When: May 12, 2026, 11:30 AM–12:30 PM (CET)
Format: Online webinar (Zoom link will be sent to registered participants)
Language: English
As climate change accelerates and natural resources deplete, understanding how to measure true economic progress has never been more urgent. How can we account for the value of nature in our economic systems?
Professor Partha Dasgupta (University of Cambridge) is a world-leading economist in ecological economics. The New York Times has described him as ”the most important person you’ve never heard of” for his groundbreaking work on integrating ecology and economics.
During this webinar, Professor Dasgupta will present and discuss the main themes of his new book On Natural Capital: The Value of the World Around Us (2025).
He argues that ecology and economics must be integrated to ensure sustainable long-term economic development. The current GDP measure excludes critical aspects of wealth – natural capital such as forests, clean water, and biodiversity. To improve our overall wellbeing, all types of capital must be included in our measures of progress.
How do we move from GDP to a more comprehensive measure that accounts for the natural world around us?
Moderator: Daniel Lind, research director at the Swedish Trade Union Productivity Commission
The webinar will be recorded and made available on Arenagruppens YouTube channel.
