Del 19 | The swedish model – conflict or consensus? – Håkan A Bengtsson

Rioting in suburban areas of Stockholm and other Swedish cities in the spring of 2013 was reported in several international media. The riots exposed the increased rifts in Swedish society. Major groups have benefited in purely economic terms from the policies of the current non-socialist government, especially as a result of lower taxation for those in work. At the same time, the situation has deteriorated for those who have a weaker position in the labour market.
The Swedish Model is still very much associated with Social Democracy and the labour movement, but in recent years, the non-socialist coalition (“allians”) headed by the ”New Moderate” Party, has also started to lay claim to the Swedish Model concept.
Håkan A Bengtsson’s report describes the background to the Swedish model, its redefintion and reform by the non-socialist coalition and its prospects for the future.

Den svenska modellen har förknippats med arbetarrörelsen och Socialdemokraterna, men numera gör även Moderaterna och Alliansen anspråk på begreppet.
